We are community composters working to build a zero waste world. We keep food waste out of landfills and use it to build healthy soils and nurture equitable and resilient food systems.

Epic Renewal provides composting services and zero waste consulting for homes, businesses, and events throughout the greater Rhode Island area. Our event services cover zero waste consulting and on-site support for events as small as a birthday party to as large as a 6k-guest festival, and everything in between.

About this pOsition

We are look for reliable, detail-oriented team players to help support our composting event services as needed. This position will report directly to the Operations Director, and will work closely with the Executive Director.

We love to have a roster of motivated folks who we can contact when a big event is coming up! This role supports our zero waste event commitments on an as-needed basis, in a variety of ways, largely determined by the needs of each event. While each event is different, this role will largely be responsible for any of the following tasks. Advanced training and personal protective equipment is always provided to our event teams.

Event set-up & breakdown:

  • Loading and unloading gear
  • Setting up signage and waste stations
  • Acting as a representative of Epic Renewal with event guests, hosts, and vendors

Waste station management:

  • Answering questions from guests, ensuring a clear and friendly environment
  • Ensuring waste stations and event area are clean from spills, litter, etc.
  • Checking and swapping waste station bin liners as needed
  • Bringing filled liners to team sorting station
  • Loading collection/hauling receptacles (dumpsters, trailer, truck, etc.)

Waste sorting:

  • Supporting proper waste stream management, ensuring clean waste streams for landfill, recycling, compost, food recovery, and other donations.

Qualifications

  • Reliable team player with strong communication skills
  • Attention to detail and problem solving skills; solution-oriented attitude
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced, versatile environment
  • Must be able to work on-site
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
  • Appreciated, but not required:
    • Fluency in languages other than English, particularly Spanish.
    • Experience with compost, waste systems, agriculture, or climate issues.

Schedule & Compensation

This role will be compensated at $18/hour, and will typically include engagements ranging from 3 to 12 hours, depending on the event. We work with each of our team members to ensure that they’re contacted only for the types of roles they’re most interested in.
